CYBERBULLYING
TEAM PROJECT

01. TOPIC DEVELOPMENT
Topics for Investigation

Fact:
Online bullying problems for teenagers increase in number every year.
Problems:
Many people cannot realize the magnitude of the problem because online bullying is global humiliation on a vastly wider scale than just in school, coming from people who hide behind their monitors, sometimes anonymously. This leads to emotionally vulnerable teenagers feeling pain and even committing suicide. At the same time, the bullies do not know they are killing people and they don’t have emotions.
What you want to achieve:
I will investigate the magnitude of this problem, finding statistical data, to raise teenagers’ awareness, so they can learn how use social media properly and recognize cyberbullying.
Brainstorming
I divided this concept into physical, emotional ,bully, and victim of cyberbullying because cyberbullying consists of bullies and victims. Both are affected physically and emotionally. This brainstorming wall can help me explore the topic more clearly, so I can know what I should have to research and focus on which part.

Final Posters
Social media has become a big part of many aspects of our lives. However, it might become an enemy in your unguarded moments. Specifically, many teenagers don’t realize how they can fall victim to an online bully. I decided to use three logos from social media companies. Many people use these social media outlets everyday because these are friendly. However, many people don’t realize that behind these friendly media site images, there is the danger of cyberbullying. I used different colors for the background, the hand, and the logo. All of these colors are strong and contrast with each other because I wanted to express strong messages to teenagers with these contrasting colors. In addition, I emphasized the hand because so much of what we do on social media is done with our hands. The main purpose is to get people’s attention and raise awareness about cyberbullying.

Interactive Quiz
Most teenagers don’t try to get information about their problems when they experience cyberbullying. Sometimes they are obligated to do school projects about cyberbullying. If they see and think about cyberbullying many times, they will think and pay attention to it before they go online. This interactive quiz is an educational program which teaches students about cyberbullying. The program happens in a computer class at school before they take the classes once a week. This media channel has only three quizzes and a short video with the answers to the quiz, so students can take it casually. However, it is important to keep teaching teens about cyberbullying.

Event

Students write about the meaning and prevention of cyberbullying on post-its, which they put on a wall. Then, they share their ideas and devise a scenario themselves. Next, they will act out skits on cyberbullying and how to prevent it in groups in the high school. Many students can get solutions to problems with cyberbullying in this sharing session. A lot of students can remember their own feelings and recognize the feelings of victims when they act in the skits and when they watch them. After this experience, when they write something online, they will be more considerate about other people’s feelings. This will decrease the amount of pain they cause others on social media.

Students write on three post-its. For the first each student imagines that they are the bully and they write about their feelings and actions. For the second post-it, each student imagines that they are a victim and writes about their feelings and behavior. For the final post-it, each student has to think about how they can stop cyberbullying.

With a facilitator, each group talks, and then they think about a scenario. After the practice it, the auditorium and then each group acts out their skit for the other students.

Before starting this event, each teen chooses from three different, T-shirt design. Front design is only logo and back part express our event concept pictures. When this event is finished, the participants receive a phone cover as a gift.

Also, it provides links to other useful sites about cyberbullying.
